Running economy

All the world’s great distance runners have running economy.

It’s a style of running that involves wasting as little effort and energy as possible on unproductive movement.

More specifically, running economy means that you don’t waste energy fighting against gravity.

Features of running economy

  • relaxed neck and shoulders with minimal head movement
  • a short and fairly quick stride pattern which keeps you relatively low in the air
  • low knee lift; and
  • arms held loosely low by your side.
